B2B marketing in Basel: what a campaign for your company would look like

Basel companies bring me in when a campaign has to be planned and moving within one quarter: as a one-day Momentum Workshop, a 4- to 12-week project run alongside your people, or advisory every month. Workshops can run on site or remote. What follows is a full campaign plan for one invented company, built on real facts about Basel.
In Basel your buyers are often a tram ride away. The hard part is the two days in April when the industry flies in from abroad.
A fictional example from Basel's life sciences cluster
A fictional example, to make it concrete. Probenkette AG is invented: 20 people and a cold depot in Basel, moving temperature-controlled lab samples on the same day between biotech labs, testing labs and clinics in the tri-border region of Switzerland, Germany and France and logging the chain of custody for every box.
The Canton of Basel-Stadt puts the region at about 700 life sciences companies with 33,000 employees. The Handelskammer beider Basel calls logistics, with around 12,000 jobs, one of the region's biggest employers next to life sciences. Probenkette sits where the two meet.
The buyers are lab operations heads, QA managers and clinical operations leads at biotech start-ups, scale-ups and contract manufacturers. Many work at the Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area, whose main campus sits in the Bachgraben innovation district in Allschwil, or in the Tech Park Basel.
- Goal for the scenario: 25 partnering meetings at the Swiss Biotech Day and 10 paid pilot shipments within 12 weeks.
- Anchor: the Swiss Biotech Day on 26 and 27 April 2027 at the Congress Center Basel.
- Offer: a two-page guide for lab teams on what a sample shipment from Basel to Freiburg or Mulhouse needs on paper, plus one pilot run at cost.
Is out-of-home worth it at Basel's hubs?
For this scenario, hardly. Basel's hubs move large, mixed crowds; the target group is a few hundred lab and quality leads. SBB counted an average of 103,800 travelers a day at Basel SBB in 2025, and EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg handled 9.6 million passengers.
Under an agreement announced in April 2025, APG|SGA markets the advertising on and in the trams and buses of Moving Media Basel, the joint company of the transport operators BVB and BLT. Digital screens on BLT vehicles stay with Livesystems. My view: in year one the money works harder elsewhere.
| Place | What's true | My call |
|---|---|---|
| Basel SBB | 103,800 travelers a day, average 2025; trips to and from abroad only partly counted (SBB) | No standing campaign; tram 1 or 2 to Messeplatz goes into the invitation |
| Badischer Bahnhof | Tram 2 or 6, two stops to the venue (Messe Basel) | Route in the invitation for guests from Germany |
| EuroAirport | 9.6 million passengers in 2025, with a French and a Swiss side | No; delegates fly in from abroad, the buyers already work here |
| Trams and buses | Marketed by APG|SGA for Moving Media Basel (announced 2025) | Not in year one; revisit once the pilot list is known |
| Innovation park, Allschwil | Main campus of Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area | Yes, as a target list and for visits in person |

Which Basel events fit a lab logistics campaign?
Basel's life sciences calendar runs through one address: Messe Basel and the Congress Center Basel at Messeplatz, run by MCH Group, with the congress center directly connected to the exhibition halls. For a lab service provider, three recurring events matter.
- Swiss Biotech Day: the flagship event of the Swiss Biotech Association at the Congress Center Basel. In 2026 it drew more than 3,500 participants from more than 50 countries, more than 140 exhibitors and more than 6,500 pre-scheduled partnering meetings, per the organizer. Usually in spring: 4 and 5 May in 2026, next on 26 and 27 April 2027. swissbiotechday.ch
- Ilmac Basel: the chemistry and life sciences fair at Messe Basel by MCH Exhibitions & Events, with pharmaceutical logistics among its topics. The organizer cites 400 exhibitors and 12,800 visitors without naming the year. Usually September: the last Basel edition ran in September 2025, the 2026 edition was in Lausanne, and the next Basel dates are 21 to 23 September 2027. ilmac.ch
- BioTechX Europe: run by Terrapinn at Messe Basel, focused on data, AI and discovery. Usually October; the next edition is on 11 to 13 October 2027, tickets from EUR 1,395. terrapinn.com
My pick: Swiss Biotech Day as the anchor, Ilmac in September as the second wave, BioTechX left out. Its audience is data and discovery teams, and Probenkette sells to the people who ship the samples.
How the partnering weeks would run
At the Swiss Biotech Day the meetings are made weeks before anyone enters the building. According to the organizer, the partnering platform for 2027 opens on 10 March, scheduling starts a week later, and each accepted meeting gets a fixed time at a numbered table on level 1 of the Congress Center.
- Passes, not a booth: two delegate passes at CHF 750 each plus 8.1% VAT, the organizer's regular rate. Partnering is included. Registration opens on 27 January 2027; refunds, less a CHF 100 fee, only until 25 March.
- Requests: personal meeting requests to lab and QA leads from the target list in week 5, each naming one concrete problem, such as a weekend shipment to a lab in Germany.
- Your own side event: a depot visit on Wednesday 28 April, the day after the conference, for 12 lab managers. They watch one sample run from pickup to signed record.
- Follow-up: the organizer keeps the partnering portal open for about ten weeks after the event for messages. Every meeting gets a pilot offer within 48 hours.
My rule of thumb: count confirmed meetings two weeks before the doors open. Fewer than 15 here means the requests were too generic, and there's still time to rewrite them.
What the digital layer looks like across three borders
A Basel campaign rarely stays inside Switzerland. The Swiss Biotech Report 2026 cites a 2025 study of northwestern Switzerland in which roughly 70% of skilled life sciences workers hold a foreign passport and around 30% commute across the border. So the digital layer has to work in three countries and at least two languages.
- LinkedIn by country: target lab, quality and operations roles in the Basel area and the neighboring parts of Germany and France. LinkedIn allows one profile language per ad set, and English reaches every member in the chosen location, per its help pages. So I'd run English ads and send them to pages in English, German and French.
- Recent location in the event week: LinkedIn also offers "recent location", based on the IP address during short visits. A small ad set for the conference days reaches delegates who are in Basel only for those days. Per LinkedIn, these audiences are usually smaller, location targeting can be limited in the EEA and Switzerland, and an ad set needs 300 member accounts: check the estimate first. The channel itself: LinkedIn for B2B, explained.
- Networks: the Logistikcluster Region Basel of the Handelskammer beider Basel and Basel Area Business & Innovation, the regional innovation agency. Good for introductions, weak for leads.
- Language: German copy follows Swiss rules, so no ß anywhere, and CHF amounts take the apostrophe (CHF 7'800). Labs in Alsace get French.
A few hundred named labs with two or three people each: that's account-based work, see the guide to account-based marketing.
What would the 12 weeks cost?
The scenario runs from 15 February to 7 May 2027, with the Swiss Biotech Day in week 11. In CHF: the passes come from the organizer's price list and the project fee from mine; everything else is my estimate until real quotes are in.
| Week | Step | Guide value, CHF |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 3 | Target list, offer, guide and pages in English, German and French | Project fee from 7,800; translation 1,000 to 2,000 |
| 4 to 10 | Passes booked, partnering profile live, requests out, LinkedIn by country | Passes about 1,620 incl. VAT; LinkedIn 4,000 to 8,000 |
| 11 | Swiss Biotech Day, event-week ad set, depot visit | LinkedIn 1,000 to 2,000; depot visit 1,500 to 3,000 |
| 12 | Follow-up through the partnering portal, pilot shipments | Sales time; pilots at cost |
The reasoning: LinkedIn at about CHF 80 to 160 a day for seven weeks in three small regions, a short event-week burst, a professional translation of one guide and one landing page, and a depot visit with shuttle and catering for 12 people. In total I'd plan CHF 9,000 to 17,000 for media and events plus the project fee. No booth in year one: the partnering platform does that job. How you'd measure the Basel campaign
Measure the Basel campaign in partnering meetings and pilot shipments per lab on the list. Before week 1, every lab gets a CRM record with its country, and every meeting, pilot and opportunity is tagged with its source.
- Confirmed meetings two weeks before the event: the early warning for week 11.
- Pilot shipments booked: the real test of the offer.
- Pipeline by country: Switzerland, Germany, France. Search Console splits traffic by country as well.

What Basel means for your own campaign
Basel rewards companies that plan around a few big events and the borders around the city. Find the one event where your buyers meet, book the meetings before you book anything else, and write for three countries from day one.
If you want the frame first, read up on go-to-market strategy and on B2B lead generation.
A Momentum Workshop gets you there fastest: one day with your team, a 90-day plan at the end. Every format with its price is listed under B2B marketing consulting. Prefer to talk first? Take 30 minutes with me and name the event your buyers never miss. I'll tell you how I'd build the weeks before it.
Frequently asked questions
Do you work on site in Basel?
My base is near Zurich, and I work with companies in Switzerland and Germany. Workshops can run on site or remote. If your team would rather meet in person in Basel, we note that in the offer, together with the dates.
What does a B2B campaign in Basel cost?
Around CHF 9,000 to 17,000 for media and events across the 12 weeks, as guide values for the lab logistics scenario here. My project fee comes on top, starting at CHF 7,800. A booth or station advertising would raise it fast.
Do I need a booth at the Swiss Biotech Day?
Not to get meetings. Every conference pass includes the partnering platform, and in 2026 more than 6,500 meetings took place there, per the organizer. In year one I'd send two people with a full meeting list, then decide on a booth with real numbers.
Which language should B2B marketing in Basel use?
Usually three. Life sciences teams in Basel often work in English, German pages need Swiss spelling, and labs in Alsace read French. I'd run ads in English and send each country to its own page, with prices in CHF for Swiss buyers.
